OPPO A5 5G: Aided by the rapid expansion of 5G networks in India, phone manufacturers are working to bring next-gen connectivity to as many people as possible.
New on the scene is a new entrant from OPPO: the OPPO A5 5G – a phone that’s hoping to offer a taste of what budget buyers can get for not a lot of money in the 5G department without sacrificing in areas like battery life, display or everyday performance.
The OPPO A5 5G is trying to tick all the boxes for people desiring a modern looking, decent for everyday tasking phone that doesn’t break the bank.
Design and Display: Glossy Looks on the Cheap
Design has always been important to OPPO - even when the company is making a budget device.
Inheriting that legacy, the A5 5G’s matte-finish back is simple, beautiful, and available in tasteful colors like Ocean Blue and Midnight Black.
Its body is plastic, but it has a well-constructed feel and is light in the hand.
Its real beauty is the 6.72-inch Full HD+ display. Not only is it large and crisp, but it also gets a 120Hz refresh rate — a rarity at this price.
That means scrolling through apps, social media and menus feels buttery smooth. The viewing experience, be it videos or games, is solid.
The phone features an IPS LCD panel, which means it lacks OLED like contrast, but brightness and color accuracy are impressive for its class.
Performance and Software: Proven and Likely Good Enough for Daily Use
Under the hood, the OPPO A5 5G comes with the newer Qualcomm Snapdragon 480+ 5G processor, along with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD card).
This isn’t a gaming beast, but it’s a nice and optimized chip for everyday running.
As launching apps and hopping around social media platforms or browsing are free of visible lag.
Without a doubt, casual titles such as Subway Surfers and Free Fire will work fluidly, while the high-end ones may require you to turn the settings down in order to enjoy the games without lag.
The phone is powered by a polished, feature-rich interface in the form of ColorOS 13 based on Android 13.
It’s giving you tones of customization, app cloning, and smart features. It does have some pre-installed apps, many of which we were able to remove.
Camera: Decent in the Day, Passable at Night
Cameras The OPPO A5 5G has a dual-lens camera setup:
50MP main camera
2MP depth sensor
The 50MP does great in daylight photos. The inbuilt stereo speakers are Dolby enhanced and they sound crisp and clear.
Images are sharp and detailed, particularly in good light. The skin tones are natural, and the AI scene recognition does a pretty good job enhancing the colors.
Portrait mode is serviceable but edge detection isn’t always flawless.
In dim lighting or indoors, image quality slips noticeably. Noise adds, so the details get more and more flaccid.
The Night Mode does a little to help, but it’s not a strength.
The 8MP front camera can capture acceptable selfies in vibrant light. The app is also compatible with primary beauty filters and portrait shots.
Battery and Charging
One of the highlights of the OPPO A5 5G is the 5000mAh battery. It can definitely last a full day even when used relatively heavily — including things like video streaming, gaming, and social media browsing.
It’s also compatible with 18W fast charging, so you can juice up the phone from 0 to 100 per cent in about 90 minutes.
It’s not the fastest in the segment, although it is efficient for topping up each day.
Connectivity and Extras
5G with a 5 and more The A5 5G will handle a multitude of 5G bands as well as Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.1 and GPS. It gets a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, face unlock and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
It also includes a dedicated a microSD card slot — a boon for people who store media offline.

Cons:
